Liz and I spent yesterday at Storm King Art Center in 50 miles north of NYC, in Mountainville, NY. I’ve been hearing about this place since college, but still, I couldn’t come up with a good reason for having waited so long to visit. With over 500 acres of landscaped grounds and a permanent collection of monumental sculpture from the 60’s to the present, Storm King is a magical place. Isolated in a Catskill Mountain valley, the setting could not be more idyllic. The museum draws attention to the relationship between art and nature; this relationship is evident in much of the work.
The weather was amazing if not unseasonal, and it was a perfect day to drive some winding mountain roads and to take in some art… more to come.
