national champion, quercus phellos

I traveled to Eastville, Virginia located on the southern tip of the del-mar-va peninsula on Friday.  I visited Wescoat Nursery to select some Quercus Phellos, also known as willow oak, for the heritage field project.  The nursery was on willow oak road, and I then found out that the national champion willow oak was on that very road.  I was glad I’d brought my wide angle lens.  In person, this tree was truly awesome.
